An Alpine Musical Celebration

The Fireside Social Orchestra Quartet, recreating the small orchestra featured in parlor and ballroom performances of yesteryear, will perform a program of Swiss and German Music with instruments including alphorns, violin, tenor viola, cello, recorders, flute, serpent, ophicleide, tenor horn, tuba, voices and more.

The program will include waltzes, polkas and ländlers by German, Swiss, and German-American composers, two authentic Swiss alphorn calls played on a pair of 12-foot alphorns, a polka from Oregon’s Aurora Colony (established in 1856), the humorous “Ich bin der Doktor Eisenbart,” and, of course, the rousing “Beer Barrel Polka” from 1927 and more.

Directed by Phil and Gayle Neuman of The Trail Band and The Oregon Renaissance Band, the Fireside Social Orchestra Quartet consists of Laura Kuhlman, Gayle Neuman, Phil Neuman, and Elizabeth O’Connor.
